While writing this letter, my thoughts reflect back to my first election to President of REMBI in 2000.  I am more aware than ever this time of the awesome task ahead of us and the contributions needed.  While I know that we must continue to carry on the traditions of providing excellence in education, be sensitive to the needs of our communities, demand higher standards of leadership and focus on the successful productivity of our property managers, I must not forget the examples set by previous REMBI Presidents.

When I look back over my past years, I remember those Presidents like Albert H. Johnson, who took time with us to make sure that we (REMBI students) learned to keep good detailed books for record keeping, but also the importance of the very necessary elements of “Human Nature.”   Past REMBI Presidents, H Bernie Jackson, who was persistent about  following the system; Ed London’s eye for making sure you are managing the cost closely, and Larry Cameron’s contribution to leadership training by visual example in drawing a clear picture by putting it on paper.  These past Presidents may have made it appear to go smoothly, but I learned that shaping or attempting change or improvements can be earth-shaking.

I am happy to have been re-elected again to help bring about preparation through learning at a time when our industry is experiencing “new opportunities” to empower our property managers to focus.  Foreclosures will cause many families to need rental housing.  REMBI training will help our property manager to learn to provide good quality housing and to manage the “bottom line”.

REMBI will provide property management courses structured to enable real estate licensees to take a series of short classes adding up to the necessary number  of courses for their designation.  We will attempt to hold classes during Midwinter, Convention, Regional and State meetings.  We will also hold classes annually.  Of course, the classes will be based on demand and cost effectiveness.

As said by past President Russel Neal, “The Property Management Industry is ever changing and challenging. These changes demand that we are better prepared, and to accept the "challenge".

We must be prepared to accept that opportunity with the knowledge and the experience to better serve our clients.  I am humbled by your selection.  I pray for God’s help for me and our REMBI membership through these times.

Jean Webber, CREM
REMBI President 2007-09
